Children in the UK have some of the worst instances of tooth decay in the world. The Ivy Clinic are children’s dentists in Teddington who aim to prevent dental disease rather than treat it at a later day, which is why we recommend bringing your children in to see the dentist as soon as they get their first tooth. This is usually around the age of six months. Regular visits to the dentist from an early age will help to prevent problems and to spot them early if they do arise. It will also get your children used to visiting the dentist and to see it as a positive experience, helping set them up with good oral health for life.
Dr Pamela Foster has a special interest in children’s dentistry and has been recognised for her gentle approach to dentistry, being chosen as a Community Dentist for Richmond and Twickenham. In this role she treats patients with special needs, both adults and children, referred to her by other dentists.
Professional and Friendly Treatment
At the Ivy Clinic Teddington Dentists we treat children as private patients, meaning you can avoid lengthy waiting lists for treatments such as orthodontics. The quicker the problem is treated, the easier and less invasive it is to fix. We can also offer corrections to mild orthodontic issues that are not currently available on the NHS.
For younger children, we encourage parents to bring them along to their own appointments. Getting used to visiting the dentist, sitting in the chair and opening their mouth to let the dentist look inside are good habits to establish from an early age. Our dental team can also help children develop a good brushing technique to help keep their teeth healthy.
We offer all child patients preventative treatments with fluoride varnish and fissure sealant. Fluoride varnish can be applied to milk teeth and adult teeth, strengthening enamel to help prevent decay. Fissure sealant is applied to the permanent back teeth, coating the biting and chewing surface of the teeth with a plastic coating that prevents food particles getting trapped in the grooves.
